We invited participants currently residing in the Greater area of Jakarta and Cisarua, Bogor to the Institut Teknologi Bandung campus to conduct the Transition Living Lab workshops. Two workshops were conducted in parallel on one day with a total of 12 participants, from Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia, facilitated by 6 students. The workshop was designed using the Systemic Design framework approach and used Paperdolls and Lexicon as media to facilitate the participants in achieving their goals as changemakers.

We collaborated with Resilience Development Initiatives Urban Refugee Research Group (RDI UREF) and Emplace Initiatives to ensure that the participants could familiarize themselves with the workshop content, and that the students could get background information and insights about the youth refugee participants prior to the workshop. The collaboration with RDI UREF and Emplace Initiatives allowed us to create a safe space during the workshop where the participants could freely express themselves without any hesitation.

Intersectional Lexicon

Each letter has its own history, and each history holds an interesting story about how letters and language have shaped the world to this day. In the contemporary era, where identity has become very complex, language may be the last refuge for humans to convey messages to humanity.

Crafting Your Utopia Through Bepe-bepean

“Bepe-bepean” or “Paper Doll” or also known as dress-up and clothing games, was a popular game in Indonesia around the 90s. The way to play it is easy and requires creativity to create a figure according to the creator’s character. Moreover, “Bepe-bepean” serves as a platform for self-expression, allowing participants to create characters and stories through their paper dolls and participate in scenario playing. This imaginative play nurtures emotional intelligence and empathy as participants imbue their dolls with personalities and emotions.
